How do you hold your body throughout the day?
Do you notice your posture is less than ‘perfect’?
Do you suffer from computer slouch from too many hours at a desk working and answering emails?
This exercise will help you become more aware of your shoulders and your posture, and soon you’ll start holding yourself differently, and that will make a big difference in your confidence and the way you show up in the world. Others will notice you more than they did before, all with a simple shift in your posture.
Chest and heart open. Shoulders down, relaxed and back.
And of course let’s not forget the sexy part! Your shoulders will start to look shapely and defined, which means you’ll feel great wearing tank tops or anything else that shows off your shoulders! Sexy shoulders!
The exercise I’m talking about today is the Single Arm Shoulder Press.
The benefits of this exercise for you are increased core stability, increased shoulder stability, stronger shoulders and surrounding muscles, and better body balance overall. This is one of my favourite exercises to do to strengthen and define my shoulders, when I’m in the contraction phase of the lift, my deltoids look awesome. And yours will too.
All you need is a dumbbell or kettle bell, then stand with good posture (shoulders down and back), press the weight towards the ceiling, then bring the weight back down to shoulder level, and repeat. Keep your core braced throughout movement, and don’t lean into or away from the weight, keep yourself completely straight/upright throughout the exercise.
Use a weight that’s heavy enough, so you can perform 10-15 reps maximum. Do 3 sets. Add this exercise to your current program and aim to do it 3 times per week on alternating days.
